“Deal or No Deal.” That’s what I am now calling the debt ceiling debate between Congress and the White House. I said last week that it is going to be tough getting tax increases and spending cuts big enough to get a $2.5 trillion raise in the debt ceiling through the House of Representatives.

Yesterday, there was a UK hearing featuring father and son executives Rupert and James Murdoch over alleged phone hacking. The spectacle was covered wall-to-wall by most cable news outlets. Channel surfing, I realized that at one point, CNN, HLN, FOX News, FOX Business, MSNBC, CNBC and Bloomberg were all running the testimony. The coverage was highlighted by a disgruntled protester attempting to hit the senior Murdoch with some sort of foam pie.

Gold hit another all-time high yesterday! According to gold website Kitco.com, “. . . investors continue to seek out the precious yellow metal as a safe-haven asset amid heightened financial, economic and geopolitical uncertainty. One market watcher in a wire service report summed up nicely gold’s recent price action, saying “it’s a warm blanket on a cold day.” August Comex gold closed up $4.80 an ounce at $1,245.60 after hitting a new high of $1,254.50 in early trading.”

Glen Beck’s problems with his advertisers started on “Fox & Friends” the morning of July 28th when he said President Obama has “a deep-seated hatred for white people,” adding, “This guy is, I believe, a racist.” Since then, it has been reported no less than 20 advertisers have asked The Fox News Channel not to place their ads in his show. Colorofchange.org is taking credit for the ad exodus from GB. It’s a group that says it “exists to strengthen Black America’s political voice.” I would not …
