Dear Greg:

Totally agree with you. It is really outrageous that in George Will's "democracy", there is no accountability from the FED, not to mention the fact that David Walker, former Comptroller General, who resigned in disgust, said that 21 out of 24 Government agencies could not pass an audit, even the IRS!!

And what about the wars and covert ops that are all funded with a "Black budget"?

That is why the System is collapsing.

Gorbachev was right about needing "Glasnost", Openness, or the better word, "Transparency"

If there really were transparency and accountability, a lot of crimes against the people would be revealed and things would change very fast. But that is why the FED and the upper 1% resist. Anyway, reality will out in the end. In the meantime, we are screwed.

Greg,

Great article and I agree 100%. I did not realize that George Will was such a bootlicker....and obviously not a patriot. Below is a quote from John Adams, the 2nd president of the USA.

"Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide."

Sadly, our country is headed in this direction...

Usually - I agree with George Will on most issues but I am disappointed to a point of disgust with his stance on not holding the Federal Reserve accountable and you deserve much credit for taking him to task.

As a retired educator (economics) I fear we are on a path of no return - economically speaking! Obama does not appear to have a clue as to how to grow jobs and is surrounded by academic imbeciles.

Please keep up the good work.

Respectfully,

Gary Simpson

Greg,
Agree 100%. The fed should have to open it's books to the public since it controls the basic economic engine of this country. However, letting congress get its hands on anything scares the devil out of me for obvious reasons and this could be the first step in congress getting the controls that George Will writes about.

Ron,
I would rather have Congress control the money than private bankers. If the Fed is audited it will die. Great comment!!

Greg,
Will goes on to say, “America is committed to democracy — and to circumscribing democracy’s scope in order to minimize the damage it can do by improvident responsiveness to untempered gusts of public passion.”
Once again someone feels American’s are too stupid to do the right thing. Does Mr. Will understand that we are not a democracy but a representative republic?
I have the right to know who is looting the treasury. I have the right to know which of Congress’ cronies are getting my tax dollars to cover the foot loose and fancy free bet that were made due to Wall Streets’ short sighted, next quarter strategy instead of a proper long term strategy. After all, Congress has spent my children and grand children into bondage.
You want to resolve the insolvency issues of Social Security and Medicare? Put Congress on our plan. Where can you work for such a short time and get a life time retirement, all the bribes you can take and free meals and trips and free best in class health care? Besides Congress; I mean in the real world. No where,
