MYRA IRA: My Retirement Account, UK Banker Deaths and MoreBy Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com

Let’s go back to the Middle East for the top stories.  The Syrian peace talks have gone nowhere.  Absolutely nothing has been accomplished from the U.S. perspective.  They have failed and the best thing you can hope for is another round of talks.  The Syrians and the Assad regime, on the other hand, look to be the big winners.  They claimed to be destroying their chemical weapon stockpile but are way behind schedule and have only come up with a little more than 4% of their stockpile.  Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel is concerned, as he should be.  It looks like the Syrians and the Russians have put one over on the Obama Administration.  There appears to be no end to the Syrian civil war that has claimed the lives of more than 130,000 and displaced more than 7 million.

Speaking of Syria, it appears the civil war there is continuing to spill across its borders.  It is being reported that the military in Turkey has been attacking al-Qaeda forces inside Syria.  The attacks by the Turkish military are in retaliation for cross-border fire earlier this week.  This is just another sign of increasing instability in the region.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the Middle East, it appears like the Iranians have also made fools of the Obama Administration.  The country is not getting rid of its nuclear program.  Last week, the Iranian Foreign Minister said the White House “underplays the concessions and overplays the Iranian commitments.” This is in sharp contrast to what the President said this week in the State of the Union Address.  The West wants to curb Iran’s nuclear program because it is afraid the program will eventually produce nuclear weapons.  Iran denies those claims.

The Federal Reserve pulled a bit of a surprise this week.  It, once again, cut back or “tapered” the bond buying program.  It is still pumping out $65 billion a month propping up the economy and holding down interest rates.  The Fed has some bad timing, though, with recent news on an uptick in unemployment and falling home sales.  In the State of the Union Address, the President bragged on the economy while asking for more money for unemployment benefits.  His idea of making things better is raising the minimum wage.  Nothing was talked about in terms of the growing debt bubble that could implode the economy and send the world into a depression.  It seems both parties are in denial about how bad the economy really is.  The Fed is still pumping out $65 billion a month.  Greg Mannarino told me the Fed is trying to prop up the stock market by driving money back to the U.S. from emerging markets.  Mannarino and Doug Casey say the bond bubble is the big problem, and it is only a matter of time until it pops.

Maybe this is why the President introduced a new IRA called MYRA, it stands for My Retirement Account.  It allows American to buy Treasury Bonds.  Is this an opening the government is taking to start pushing people into government debt?  Could it be forced on Americans someday if the Fed stops buying all this debt?  Didn’t we hear there is a bond bubble?  Shouldn’t people stay away from bubbles before they pop?  Have you heard what former World Bank Chief Economist Justin Yifu Lin said this week?   “Dominance of the greenback is the root cause of global financial and economic crises,” said Lin.  He also says the dollar should be “replaced” as the reserve currency.  Interest rates would head much higher along with inflation in the U.S., and those bonds the President wants you to buy would tank.

Finally, I guess some bankers in the UK don’t feel too good about the so-called “recovery.”  This past week, one hung himself, and another threw himself off a high-rise in London.  Coincidence?  Maybe, and maybe not.  Meanwhile, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon, who lost $23 billion in fines restitution and trading losses, is getting a 74% raise.  He bagged $20 million in 2013.   His company was fined for working with fraudster Bernie Madoff, and nobody loses their job, and Dimon gets a big raise?  We live in a world where bad is good and a lie is the truth.

    Nice summation Greg.
Lets get this clear…”The Syrians, Russians and Iranians are making fools of the Obama Administration”. To add insult to injury….even the Obama Administration are making fools of themselves. Hideous and an embarrassment. The laughing stock of the world. Not bad for a supposed super power. Where did we go so horribly wrong ?
On the matter of MyRA…look no further than one of your guest speakers Mr Jim Rogers for the absolute slam dunk on this topic.

When men of this calibre speak …..you better listen for your own good. Their warnings are like preordained events…but they are more than prophets. Most of them can literally foresee the future and speak the real truth – not in riddles. In this day and age….that is priceless. The lemmings will unfortunately not take head of the warnings. For those poor souls there is no hope. Unfortunately there is not a better outcome for anyone, but I wish there was.

Woe to those who drag iniquity with the cords of falsehood,

And let the purpose of the Holy One of Israel draw near
And come to pass, that we may know it!”
    Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;

      • Oracle 911

        Thank you (both of you).
And big US dollar and T-bonds sell of and confiscation of American assets in 5..4..3…
OK seriously, China and other BRICS countries will sell the in US dollar denominated paper assets, BUT don’t forget it will put a big strain to their economy in form of tremendous losses. So they will nationalize the American assets and the US government other then protest can’t do anything, reason:
        -BRICS countries are mostly big countries ,and Russia, India and China are superpowers with atom warheads, so war as option is out;
-for proxy wars US gov. is using al Qaeda mercenaries/bandits whom are paid in US dollars, but the US dollars will be worthless at this point, so this option is out to.
The only option left for the government is protest on international level (and pull some strings but it will have little to no effect) and on domestic level they will confiscate wealth in form of MyRA (forcing people into it), wealth tax and bail in and tax the working citizens to death (in some cases literally) with single payer system, federal property tax (be sure it will come), single payer health care system etc.

        Your thoughts.

        • Rodster

I think if it gets to that point, Oracle you would be looking at an all out war. I also believe the economies today are SO interlinked that what you proposed would be catastrophic for the entire global economic system and would set off a contagion that would be hard to contain.

          • Oracle 911

Thank you. But you are mistaken. I’m looking for a global economic collapse, from which Russia, India and China will came out in approx. 2-3 years due tremendous resources (both natural and human), production capacity and bilateral trade agreements. The rest of the world, well for it will take at least a decade at best and 2-3 decades at worst (if climate change and few unpredictable things happen).

          • Liquid Motion

AND those guys with their fingers on the triggers know that.
WAR is certain. It brings destruction, causes unrest and social disintegration. Economies are thrown into recession/ depression. Human lives are cast aside in the quest for patriotism and in the battle to protect the State and its desire for supremacy. It concentrates power in those individuals and entities that long survive any war.
It is the solution to the world’s troubles, because it brings about a “New” world. One in the which the clock is reset. Those that survive prosper.

          • Rodster

My point Oracle is that China for the most part is a fraud economy that’s over leveraged and is not in as good a shape as some believe. I still firmly believe that no nation will escape the devastation including China. Russia has it’s share of problems and the Indian economy is collapsing due to Fed QE policies.

        • Rodster

Greg, Iran IS TAUNTING US, although a very angry, violent, oppressive, & terrorism inspired government, they are intelligent beyond our governments ability to comprehend their political moves. Iran understood that the U.S. wanted a “deal” to claim at any cost, even if the “deal” was just a farce. What the U.S. was counting on was that Iran to stay quiet about the actual terms and enjoy the “secret” success of the deal; lifting the sanctions and continuing to move forward on their nuclear program. Iran now believes there will be no turning back from the lifting of the sanctions so taunting will have no repercussions for doing so; and they are right at least until a conservative administration should take the White House & Congress; and, at that point in time they can simply stop enriching and start dismantling and avoid a war.
Capitalist will lie, cheat, & steal with the best of the depraved humans on the planet, some say even more so, but they don’t usually brag about it, just keep it secret and enjoy the fruits of their inhuman behavior so that they can do it again. That is the essence of what was miscalculated by the State Department, they didn’t understand and anticipate the going public and the taunting, they misunderstood that culturally the Iranians had to taunt as its all part of their plan to embarrass the U.S. along with getting what they wanted. By the way, the taunting after victory is classic culture in the Islamic world of ancient days and apparently still with us in present times.

    • Galaxy 500

Yeah, some capitalist will lie and cheat just like most socialist lie, cheat and steal. I am a capitalist and I live by the code my father taught me . I don’t believe it is as prevalent among small businesses as it is among wall street bankers ( or any major money center bank). Just my thoughts, Art, I enjoy reading your positions.

  8. Shelley

Hi Greg: It is so refreshing to be able to hear the unvarnished truth in this crazy bad-is-good, Alice in Wonderland world we currently live in. Your interviews and particularly your weekly wrap-up monologues are like water on the desert to me.
Just wondering about the taper vis-a-vis MyRA (some are already calling it “TheirRA”). When I heard of the first tapering in December and then the second one this month, I thought, “What the heck??? The economy hasn’t recovered at all (in fact it’s getting worse) so who is going to buy those Treasury bonds? It is absolutely crucial that someone (anyone) buys them every month. They’re far from being out of the woods to be able to taper and leave a $20 billion per month bond purchase shortfall”. Then right on cue, Obama steps up and announces MyRA, which to me, translates into “we’re forcing your IRAs into the bond market in order to replace the gap in bond purchases we are no longer making and too bad for you that they’ll be worthless when you retire”. My understanding is there is literally trillions out there in pension funds that could go at least some way towards keeping this Ponzi scheme going. What say you? Is it likely they will not step back in and raise the QE back up to $85 billion per month because the forcing of people’s pension funds into the bond market will fill the gap? Of course, they’ll play the “patriot” card which we suckers always fall for.

    • Greg Hunter

      Shelley,
Thank you for your support and kind words. The “taper” is really about the dollar. They (the Fed and ESF) are suppressing the interest rates with massive interest rate derivatives (we are talking in the hundreds of trillions of dollars). This adds leverage and piles on risk. This is precisely why your money in the bank is not safe.
Watch Rob Kirby (Kirbyanalytics.com) this Sunday (Early Sunday Release) and he will explain it far better than me. He is an expert in derivatives and traded them internationally for 15 years!!!
      Greg

  9. Jerry

    Great weekly wrap up Greg.
I wouldn’t expect the U.S. to do to much with Syria. Prior to the gulf war, it was widely reported by the Israeli Mossad , that Saddam Hussein, with the watchful eye of the Russians, moved vast stockpiles of chemical weapons out of Iraq into Syria. Unless the U.S. wants to lock horns with the Russians, nothing is going to happen. The real fuse to the powder keg is Iran. I would be very surprised if Israel doesn’t bomb those nuclear facilities before summer. I think once the intelligence is gathered, and the time is right, they will strike. My mother was Jewish. As a rule, if a Jew says he’s going to bust your face, you’d better be looking for the left hook.

As far as the economy. Today is the Chinese new year. Why is that important? Because I fully expect the Chinese to do a full court press to implement their new Gold backed Exchange System to replace the dollar after today. Why? For two reasons. First the Chinese have figured out that the U.S. debt is putting a drag on the world economies, and that if they don’t do something soon to replace the dollar, it will pull theirs under as well. Two the Chinese never do anything without real intent. They didn’t acquire the worlds Gold reserves to sit on a shelf. They intend to go on a shopping spree once they collapse the dollar. Who would have thought that we would be outsmarted in capitalist principles by a communist country? Certainly not me. But you have to give to them, they played us right. There you go Greg. Your new 3.0 economy.

I would highly advise your readers to prepare accordingly. The time is getting very short. Have a great week-end , and thank you for having the courage to sponsor this site. I plan to donate soon.

Nothing is going to happen until after Passover which is in April this tear. I am afraid you are correct sir on all counts.
      Greg

    • Liquid Motion

      Jerry,
Kindly consider that the Chinese didn’t do this all by themselves. Capitalists from the West (US Presidents) convinced them (Chinese) to move away from the Communist mantra. None other than Rothschild paid visits to China in the early 70’s. You can witness the exponential growth in GDP towards the late 70’s – early 80’s. From there it has all been parabolic. Outsmarted.. not quite !!! Better use of their Wealth/Reserves would be more appropriate. Avoiding wars is a real advantage too.
The only thing we gave them was a solution. They did the rest.
Why did the Elite do that. Evolution my friend. Its the way the world works. Money, Wealth and Control. Does China really control the Gold ?

      • Jerry

The Chinese used us like a cheap prostitute. First they gave us the boodle in the form of cheap labor, and then they took our Benjamin’s.

      Hi Jerry
In my country is a saying, “If you marry a woman, you are marrying her family to.” And with the family comes traditions. So I suspect in your family has lot of Jewish cultural meme (don’t confuse them with Internet meme, which are funny but useless) and some traditions if you and your are aware of them or not.

My friendly advice is this: you, your friends and your family really need to carefully rethink which Jewish cultural meme/tradition will follow, because we live in the times of apocalypse (ancient Greek, meaning: uncovering, disclosure) and you, your family and friends may meet a bad end. Which I really don’t wish for you, my friend.

    Greg,

I am a Canadian, who happens to be ( like many) an avid follower of your work. I have such high admiration for what you do, as well as for those you have on every week. It must feel great doing what you love, and having the ability to come on at weeks end, and call things as they really are. It is getting harder and harder to find good reputable “alternative” media now a days, as many of these news sites are borrowing from mainstream, conforming, and pushing their own agenda’s. You, and your work, are both held in very high regard in my social circle. A very big thank you sir, as I know I speak for many !!
All the best to you and yours, as we go though this very important year ahead, together with our eyes open. Take care !

Oh Yea it is. I read a PBS article on an economist taking 1 Million out of Bank of America. My Brother in Law manages a small local bank and the people are taking large amounts out this week, for example $100,000. The older people remember the great depression, but the problem I see is the cash will be worthless firestarters/toilet paper when the fed/govt is done. If they are not converting it to PMs or land or food or guns it will be for naught.

I suspect there are many, many more insiders that will expose the Banks for what they truly are. Those that cannot live with themselves make the hard choice. Others will come forward and will castigate the Elite. Its the beginning of the End of the Reign of the Bankers. If its not the whistle blowers that destroy them, then the markets will. It will be a bloodbath. I suspect that not even the Elites are aware of the enemy that lies beneath the service. That enemy will set the world free.

There used to be a reserve currency called Gold and Silver, which had no “OWNER/OPERATOR” of the purse strings other than those countries that mined more of it, or had it flow into their country because their countries were the lands of freedom, opportunity, and innovation (US, England, France, Switzerland, Germany etc.) .

I agree, and the Bible is infallible in its predictions. The mark of the beast and other such prophecies are coming to fruition. Any problems with understanding why the Bible always speaks of the middle east & related countries surrounding Israel as relevant to our times (in that day, etc.)? You atheist and Bible haters may well want to ponder why a little country the size of New Jersey seems to the control modern times of foreign policy of the large empires at play presently. Coincidence you say, I think not, and you better hope it is!

Yes, Proverbs chapter 1 has much, much meaning today as it did in Soloman’s time. Unfortunately, we are a Nation that has thrown away God and now we will see what life is like without the providence of God himself. Without God, we are on our own.

Looks like we’re reaching that point. Fortunately, the truth always frees itself. The amount of energy and resources needed to keep the charade going will eventually reach its limits.

  17. Mike

The Jan dip the stock market was predicted (not sure where I read/heard this, maybe on another site). Watch for a rebound to 17, 000 – 17,200 by mid-May, then the pin will burst the bubble and we will see a free fall leading up to the Nov elections. Where will the bottom settle at…who knows…some predict <5000. What happens then…magic 8 ball says "better not tell you now". For those who hold tangible assets…steady the nerves to stay the course and catch the wave that has to come rolling in. Remember the three "G's"…gold-grub-guns!!!

    • Agent P

      Mike –

A ‘rebound’ to 17,000 or above by May timeframe means that no less than (3) subsequent $10B reductions to Quantitative Easing will have occurred by then, and the market will have taken them all in stride, which means – what…? I can tell you one thing – it won’t mean a ‘crash’, given some exogenous event that no one is aware of anyway. Not suggesting it isn’t possible, but is highly improbable.

The ‘other’ scenario – and much more realistic one that would see your target, would be that the market begins to precipitously decline from here into February, forcing the Fed to: a) Give ‘forward guidance’ suggesting a re-uptake of QE is imminent, or: b) Reinstate QE promptly, from an ’emergency’ Fed meeting.

Either way, if the Fed does find itself purchasing additional assets, the market ~will~ respond favorably, but at the expense of the Fed’s credibility, which by then for all intents & purposes, will have been trashed. From there out, you could be looking at another 3 – 6 months of rising S&P/Dow into a parabola. Everybody would be hopping on board. My gut tells me this might be the route we’re headed.

      • Galaxy 500

George Washington in his farewell address warned us of “entangling our peace and prosperity in the toils of European.” Jefferson warned us repeatedly. How did this Christian nation become so blood-thirsty? We have squandered so many blessings…

GW knew his masters and what their desires were. These are the same that he warned about not getting involved with. The Masons and Freemasonry are prevalent in our society as much as they are in Europe.

Concerning MyRA, it will be interesting to see if they roll out the patriotism banner for signing up. You know – back in WWII it was “support America – buy bonds!” But since we’re headed to a global currency, global government, and global “community” even, they won’t want to ramp up our country’s patriotism too much… Even now, being a “patriot” is considered akin to being a conservative radical. They’ll have to think of something, though, to make the populace want to invest in MyRA, no matter how bad of a buy it is… I know! Maybe they’ll just shake the Stock Market’s tree until bonds look like “the only” safe haven! Yeah, Yellin, just keep tapering and then raise interest rates a little more until people are petitioning to get into MyRA for the excellent and “safe” return value it is!!!

Only way I participate in this theft from me is when I am staring down the barrel of the gov’t gun

  22. Brad

I wish commentators would stop calling the western proxy war against the Assad regime a civil war as this tends to support the lie that this whole inhumane debacle is somehow about human and political rights when the real reason is gas pipeline geo politics. One other bone of contention is whether tapering is in fact truly taking place. It may be as far as the Fed’s balance sheet is concerned but other national central banks are uncharacteristically stepping up their purchase of U.S debt notes. Other than these two quibbles Mr Hunter presents a knowledgeable commentary we can trust, trust being a lost word in these times.

    • 1914OneHundredYr.'s2014

The U.S. is caught in the middle of a religious war between Sunni and Shia. We can go to war over pipelines in Syria but are not allowed to pipe shale oil from Canada to Texas. The house of Saud, Buffett, Bandar Bush, Mossad, Kerry, NSA< make strange bedfellows! Where will it all end? Nobody Knows, but 100 yr.'s ago nobody knew either. This time it will end and it will end for the wicked. (Psalms 37:10-11) And just a little while longer, and the wicked one will be no more; And you will give attention to his place and he will not be. But the meek ones themselves will inherit the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

“Dominance of the greenback is the root cause of global financial and economic crises,”

    BINGO!

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been saying myself for the past 5 years or so, ever since it became openly evident that the United States of Assassinations had decided to rely on FINANCIAL FRAUD as the basis for its official economic policies moving forward. That worldwide web of fraud that Amerika created has now spread throughout the entire global economy just like a metastasized cancer and as such it needs to be URGENTLY EXTIRPATED if the patient (aka; worldwide economic stability) is to survive.

I find it quite uplifting to discover that my own personal analysis of all this is now being ratified publicly by international experts in the field such as Justin Yifu Lin. Granted, a handful of American analysts such as Paul Craig Roberts had already been making the same predictions regarding the unsustainability of the U.S. dollar for quite a while yet they were routinely dismissed as being “‘LooneyTunes'”. Now that highly-placed officials of Amerika’s largest creditor nation are reaching the same conclusions however, it becomes increasingly difficult for American’t authorities to try to deny reality. Amerika has no where to go but D O W N!

To this I say THANK GOD!

Whatever the USSA represented in the past is now DEAD & GONE. This NEW United States of Goldman Sachs is nothing but a repugnant criminal entity on EVERY LEVEL IMAGINABLE. War crimes, financial fraud, legalized torture, drone-bombings of weddings & birthday parties, legalized kidnappings, intrusive spying, a rampant Police State, a corrupt judiciary, a congress that is nothing but a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wall St, a president who claims the dictatorial right to order the assassination of his own citizens based on his personal whims & desires, a decadent culture of morbidly obese hedonists that makes commodities out of E V E R Y T H I N G …THIS is what the USA now represents.

I predict a coming time when American’ts will be REVILED & HATED worldwide as more & more people become aware of the sheer CRIMINALITY of the nation and its leaders. It’s ALREADY starting to happen! People overseas are starting to turn their backs on our movies, our music, our ‘investments’, our technology (or whatever’s left of it) and now …even our CURRENCY. This is all desirable because ultimately I believe in the triumph of GOOD over EVIL and the United States of Americunts is NOTHING but E V I L.

    Sorry about the sincerity Greg!

    • art barnes

In my life I have met many great and good Americans, kind, compassionate & willing to help their neighbor. My own grandfather many many years ago brought in the wheat crop of a neighbor who hurt his back before his own crop. While waiting the extra 10 days to help his neighbor a hail storm came up and destroyed his crop, he never complained as he thought that is just what a good neighbor and an American does. I believe in Americans, not the run-a-muck Government who spies on us, lies to us, and is out to destroy the freedoms our fathers fought to give us. I just wanted to note there is a difference between the American Government and its people who are subject to it. I’m not saying you linked the two (government & its people) but I just wanted the people to always remember the difference, the working people are not the bankers per se or the politicians for that matter, they are just getting the best they can under difficult circumstances. God Bless THE AMERICAN PEOPLE!

    • Anne Elliott

Almost everything you said is true, Dan, but even Sodom and Gemmorah had a few good people left in it at the end. I know of many in this country who have not been corrupted, and who weep for what our government is doing; including Greg and most people and guests on this site. We’re not all evil in Amerika; we’re just unhappy citizens who don’t hold the majority vote over all the dead people in Chicago.
I try to pray every day that God would not loosen His (justified) wrath on us until His people are ready, or at least can be helped by someone else.

  24. mohammad

    Greg,

    I came across this:

“Comparing Kennedy’s death to Lincoln’s gives you a host of weird coincidences. Some examples are:

Both Presidents were shot in the back of the head, on the Friday before a major holiday, while seated beside their wives, neither of whom were injured.

Both were in the presence of another couple, and in each case that man was also wounded by the assassin.

After both assassinations there were loud and insistent claims that the fatal shot must have come from a different direction.

Each President in his thirties married a socailly prominent twenty-four year old girl who spoke French fluently.

While in the White House, each President had a family of three children, and both lost a child through death.

Both Lincoln and Kennedy were second children.

    Both had been boat captains.
Both were related to a U.S. Senator, Attorney General, ambassador to Great Britain, and the mayor of Boston.

Each had been elected to Congress in the year ’46 and were vice-presidential runners-up in the year ’56.

Each was elected president in ’60.

Before each was elected, a sister died. Both had a friend named Billy Graham and knew an Adlai Stevenson.

President Kennedy had a secretary named Mrs. Lincoln and President Lincoln had a secretary named John Kennedy.

The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters.

Both were succeeded by vice-presidents named Johnson: Andrew born in 1808 and Lyndon in 1908, both of whom had 13 letters in their names and two daughters.

Both assassins have fifteen letters in their names.

Booth shot Lincoln in a theatre and fled to a warehouse. Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and fled to a theatre.

Both assassins were in their turn assassinated by shooters who used a Colt revolver and fired only one, fatal shot.

There are many more coincidences. But does any of this prove any connection whatever between the two murders? No, of course not. It just exemplifies the minor mysteries and ironies that surround any great public tragedy. But true believers see gathering unanswered questions as an end in itself, believing somehow that even if none of the anomalies implies anything, the sheer number they come up with must have some significance. But when you are adding zeroes, it does not matter how many you add, the sum is still zero.”

    • Greg Hunter

      Mohammad,
Only one big fact that is different, Oswald didn’t shoot Kennedy. The day he was arrested I heard him say he was a “patsy.” That’s right, I am that old. I heard him say it, and I asked my dad what that meant and he said, “He’s saying he didn’t do it.” Love your comment though. I am not giving you a hard time.
      Greg

      • mohammad

        Yup!
        That is true.
I read it in the office when the nurse showed it to me and it blew my mind, I did not want to make any changes to the email, but yo are right there.

      • Ugly

Yeah but mohammad may be onto something in that both Boothe and Oswald may have been patsies. Oswald’s has hundreds of holes in his story and then came Ruby to finish it. Boothe sort of the same. Not much of a trial, just execution. Dead men don’t talk. Both were silenced relatively fast….much like what we see today.

Greg, Oswald didn’t shoot anyone, but the MSM even in those times were on board with the Warren Commission and I, like you, am old enough to remember it on TV. Mr. Hunter — Western powers have ranted about Iranian “nuclear ambitions” since the 1970s. That narrative is false — a mainstream media proxy for the not-t0-be-discussed petrocurrency battle (e.g., oil for RMB). Rgds

Keep in mind that even with a taper to $65 billion a month that is still a run rate of $780 billion a year- greater than the run rates of QE1, 2 and 3.
They are doing it just to gain some credibility to appear as if QE is not forever and that the dollar might not be debased. They can always find a way to crank up the printing presses again.
The temptation for Yellen not to do so will be too much to resist . Here is some back ground on negative interest rate Yellen http://smaulgld.com/janet-yellen-and-the-precious-printing-press/
The MyRA proposal is wrong on so many fronts, but as you say it’s a way to lay the ground work to get US citizens to buy bonds. Ironically people would buy bonds to fund their social security payments!

  28. Nathan

Greg – Myra is brilliantly evil . Think about it we know that there are now 20 billion dollars less of bonds being purchased by the Fed during the monthly bond auction . We know that the big boys and foreign investors aren’t willing to purchase them without a higher rate of return . We also know a bond collapse is possible so you replace it with the retail investors money which suppresses interest rates allowing more tapering in the future . If the bond market collapses the retailor is caught holding the bag not the “smart money” . Also , remember how pensions got traded in for market based 401k”s ? Now corporations can eliminate pensions and matching contributions . It’s win-win for the government and big business . Of course you and I get a return that barely keeps up with inflation . Brilliantly evil .

    Nathan
Keep up the good work .

  29. nathan

Whoops I meant 10 billion less in bond purchases .

    • J.C. Davis

Nathan your point is the same. I question what if the people don’t invest in 401 k ? I was told today several people I know are going to borrow against there 401k to buy cars, gold and pay off there loans. The president opened a can he should not have.

          man marries dog
Paul Horner and his dog Mac at their wedding on Monday in front of friends, family and a priest declaring their love towards each other for eternity.
San Francisco, CA — On Monday history was made at the Chapel of Our Lady at the Presidio in San Francisco as the first-ever state recognized human-animal marriage took place.

Local resident 35-year-old Paul Horner was the groom during the ceremony. Joining him was his faithful dog Mac who is 36-years-old in dog years. Mac also decided to be the groom but ended up wearing a white veil at the last moment.

Father McHale who officiated the outdoor wedding told reporters he was extremely happy to be a part of this joyous moment of life. “This is the definition of true love my friends. There is nothing more sacred than the bond between a man and his faithful dog,” McHale said. “Now, since it is recognized as a legally binding marriage in the state of California, Mr. Horner and Mac will have all the same tax benefits and everything else coming to them that a regular married couple would receive. It’s a fantastic day to be alive!”

So how could this have happened?

In the book of California’s State Laws and Regulations there is a little known law that was passed as the state was first forming in 1850. According to article 155, paragraph 10, it clearly states:

If a man and a man can get married and a woman and a woman can get married, if ever comes that day, then a human and animal will have the exact same rights to marriage in every eye of the law. God help us if this ever is to happen!

In attendance was Horner’s entire family who flew in from Hawaii to witness the event. Mac had her puppies on hand and making a special celebrity appearance was Alex from Stroh’s and Spuds Mckenzie.

“I just love my Mac so much, I can’t wait till we can finally get back to the honeymoon sweet in Montana where bestiality is legal. Gosh, get with the times California! We can marry here just fine, but love making is a big no-no,” said Horner. “People keep asking me why I wanted to marry a dog. I told them I just want the same god given rights that every person in California is allowed to have. Don’t tell me I can’t marry my dog. I don’t tell you that you can’t marry a 500 lb woman with gas issues. That’s your decision. Don’t tread on me. I love my dog and I know he loves me a hundred times more than any gay wedding out there.”

With this wedding between a man and a male dog now on the books, one can only ask what is in store next?

A man marrying a toaster? A toaster marrying a dog? A toaster marrying a toaster?

America, what happened to the sanctity of marriage? Tsk. Tsk.

Think you are being mislead on China and electric cars. Our grid is decades ahead of China and it will not sustain electric cars. Not to mention it sounds like a stupid strategy for a coal burning country. Gas cars are cheaper and last longer. It would defy logic for China to push this to their own detriment.

  35. Agent P

Lest we get confused from all the hoopla taking place in the Middle East: The U.S. has an advantage in maintaining a certain level of ‘instability’ in the region, as doing so effectively addresses to two key issues simultaneously:

#1. It keeps regional allies dependent, and enemies watching their backs.

#2. Most important of all, it maintains $petrodollar hegemony in the area by way of a balance of fear and dependence. Petrodollar hegemony isn’t simply important for oil transactions, it is ~the~ central mechanism by which reserve currency status is held together and global trade in general floating along, with the $dollar as the ‘oil’ that keeps the global financial machine from locking up.

As a result, the U.S. simultaneously enjoys the dual benefit of exporting its inflation, while keeping global trade captive, for lack of a replacement solution. At the same time, this is a very fragile dynamic, because it is predicated – since 1971 or therebouts, on Confidence. Confidence that is rapidly deteriorating as a result of our interventionist foreign policy and our fiscal/monetary profligacy. It’s all coming full circle however – always back to the $dollar. Credit to Paul Craig Roberts for driving this point home and explaining it in detail during his interviews on this site –

The China issue is much about the inevitible shift of power on the 500 year cycle. When one of the usual dissenters recently said that the gold going to China would not be seen for 250 years, I said more like 500. The cycles,
I believe re really based upon human actions, they just keep repeating the same cycles over and over never learning. Partly it is our short life span. But there are several books and some serious long term studies on cycles. David Skarica, a student of Sir John Templeton has a good book out called The Great Super Cycle. We are in the peak. When I am trying to get a young person to learn about this stuff and it’s relationship to rise and fall of powers and the world flow of money I like to remind them about the movie “Appocalipto” sp. Anyhow the whole movie is about running from the power structuure that wants to sacrifice him. The final twist is when they chase him onto the beach and they all see a ship with the Spaniards coming ashore. 500 years ago. The power was about to shift and very swiftly. The comment about Jim Rogers was so cool because he saw it coming many years ago and moved his family to Singapore so they could all learn the language and culture. Thanks for a great website.

They are the most visible symbols of this movement, and are a true part of this conspiracy to destroy industry and take the world back to a New Dark Age. All favor Global 2000 Report to the President that’s calculated to end all industrial progress, and by famine, disease and wars, eliminate the excess population industry supports. All oppose nuclear power that can produce clean cheap electricity, the key to economic development and prosperity in the Third World. Makes sense when viewed in this context.

I want to give an example of a classic middle-class American I know.

She is 60 years old, saved her money for 40 years, paid off her mortgage, has no other debt (no credit card debt, no car payment, etc) and has about $350,000 in savings, which are parked at Bank of America (I believe)

She has very little knowledge about what is being discussed here or about the federal reserve’s policies in general. I once tried to talk to her about buying gold, but she will not touch her $350,000 in cash savings (not even one penny of it); She’s lived a very frugal live, is very risk averse and that ‘s what she believes in.

I asked her what would happen if the market collapsed by 40% and reduced her $350K savings? She said she’d just work till she was 80.

I think she’s in a better financial position than most given her lack of debt but this is where most middle-class Americans are. They believe their savings will be okay and they’ll be fine and have no clue about what Bernanke is doing or how it will affect them.

      NM,
Please have your friend read this story http://www.pbs.org/newshour/making-sense/is-your-money-safe-at-the-bank-an-economist-says-no-and-withdraws-his/ A Harvard trained PhD economist just pulled $1 million out of B of A. You friend should have several banks (Small ones) and cash at home and some gold and silver coins. (I sell zero investments, so I do not have a dog in this fight.)

        Greg,
Good articles on the pbs. I read them all, including the one where the author feels that America will come back and emerge #1 do to manufacturing and energy development. I hope he is right, but it has taken many years to degrade where we are today, thus I feel his optimism is past our lifetime. The money in banks was a good article. That has been my content too. No interest has been paid since about 2007, so why keep too much in it?

      • smaulgld

It was a little strange (a) the he would have that much money given his profession, (b) that he would have had it all in a no interest mostly uninsured (FDIC only partially covers $1 million) checking account.

Sorry again for multiple posts but this one is BIG:

    http://news.yahoo.com/syria-rejected-us-talks-bid-without-kerry-apology-162844274.html

“Damascus (AFP) – Syria’s foreign minister said Saturday his delegation had rejected a US request for direct talks unless Secretary of State John Kerry apologised for his remarks at the Geneva II talks.

“The Americans asked us to negotiate directly with them in Montreux,” Walid Muallem told Syrian state media on the plane home from 10 days of peace talks in the Swiss cities of Montreux and Geneva.”

“But we refused to do so before Secretary of State John Kerry APOLOGIZED for what he said at the conference,” Muallem added, in remarks carried by state news agency SANA.

Greg, you had a guest on recently where you mentioned Gordon Brown’s warning of a crash. “Errr….. go ahead and tell them there’s gonna be a crash” is the quote I think. Can you tell me who that guest and episode was ? Appreciate it.

    BIG GUY,
the system is really accelerating quickly in the breakdown collapse
numerous central banks (mostly smaller like Thailand) are cashing in their USD cash at a 35% discount on value
they are taking local currency, like Thai Baht
    it is all accelerating

You’re one of the good guys Mr. Hunter but to called what is happening in Syria a “civil war” is extremely misleading. Expected better from you than mouthing NWO platitudes. What is happening in Syria is a foreign invasion.

    • Greg Hunter

      Baboo,
You are totally correct. I have stated this many times in the past but for brevity I simply called it a civil war. At it’s heart it is the Sunni vs. Shia with the West and East backing the two sides. Thank you for your support.
      Greg

    • mohammad

      I agree Baboo 100%
      It is an invasion!

And here am going to ask a question, Why Libya’s invasion by NATO happened?
Some will say for its oil,
Some will say for its gold,
Some will say because Qaddafi was deviating from dollar……etc!
Here is my take on Libya:

If it was not for the invasion of Libya, Syria would of never happened period!
They lured the dumb “revolutionists” there with the NATO military intervention in Libya whilst the whole thing was just to bate Syria.
Unfortunately some Syrians thought if they spark it the NATO will hurry with their planes ALA LIBYA……and they fell big time. Am so sad, i will not forgive the ignorant Syrians who fall into NATO trap and destroyed their own country with their own hands. So sad, but you know what? The only enemy to oneself is his/her ignorance!

Here is some good news on gold and silver-January’s U.S. Mint sales were quite robust. I’ve done a full break down of January’s and prior years’ sales, with gold to silver sales and price ratios http://smaulgld.com/the-silver-to-gold-sales-ratio-january-2014/

Hello Greg, thanks again for your alternative view or more importantly your sum and substance view of reality as opposed to what the presstitutes are propagating to keep their masters wealth and casino alive. In my humble opinion the rabbit hole goes deep and there is a powerful collective at the top of the pyramid that has long ago removed all the world’s borders and are planning the consolidation of the planets resources and subjugation of its people. The US and its military are but a lower layer in this pyramid. I know it sounds like a grand conspiracy scheme but you can now see it desperately being employed by the banking cartel. They are all tied together and if something else besides money controls the world please let me know what that is.
I think at some point we have to destroy the Darwinian paradigm that might makes right or that only the strongest survives and therefore the Bush Doctrine is necessary in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, etc. for the survival of the US. That’s falling into the “US is exceptional” propaganda or the Aryan racist philosophy that only we can lead the world. You intimate Obama looks weak for not following the Bush doctrine in Syria and Iran more forcefully but he already has and it only creates more enemies.
It has become very clear to the American people that We the People don’t influence much less control our government. The illusion that a vote affords us any leverage at the table of our politicians has been shattered by the revelations that both political parties have been working in concert to spy on the American citizenry and they got caught lying to us. They openly admit that they lied and now say they have to do it “to keep us safe.” They don’t even care to hide their agenda any longer. We are slaves to these people and they don’t think we have the courage to stand up for our rights.
When the government decides to push through banker bailouts, funding and arming Al Qaeda, PRISM, the Patriot Act, FISA, the National Defense Authorization Act, National Defense Resources Preparedness Act, lay siege to our 2nd and 4th amendments etc., all while ignoring opposition by a vast majority of citizens, it is clear that the paradigm has shifted and the American value of representation by and for the people is lost.
I don’t have all the answers but the best we can do is see through the BS and I thank you for exposing the truth. You are one of the last true investigative journalists, thanks again.

    Greg,

On Alarabiya there is a program called PANORAMA, I follow it since it gives some insight on the Syrian situation.

Yesterday’s episode when the host was talking to the Adam Ereli from washington, an object passed behind him on the mark 8:40 from the recording, did not look like a plane to me, can any one tell me what the hell was that?
