Bessent, Shelton, China, Gold & Inflation – Bill Holter

Financial writer and precious metals expert Bill Holter (aka Mr. Gold) heard alarm bells ring when Judy Shelton, a top gold expert, was hired recently to be an advisor to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is a top currency expert. The national debt has exploded to $40 trillion with no sign of ever paying any of it back. Holter says, “President Trump said the quiet part out loud when he said earlier this month, ‘Certain levels of inflation will also pay off that debt very rapidly. Very rapidly.’ The whole idea is if you create inflation, you are cheapening the currency. If you create enough inflation, you can cheapen the currency to what I call ‘monkey money.’ You can turn the currency into monkey money, and it makes debt very easy to pay off. I think that’s what the strategy is. China just purchased more gold in September than any prior month. I think they are on 63 or 68 straight months of purchasing gold. They are liquidating Treasuries and using that capital to buy gold. They knew this before Trump said they could lower the debt through inflation. They understand because China has blown up more paper currencies that any other country on the planet going back a couple of thousand years or more.”
Mr. Gold goes on to say, “We could have paper currencies imploding in purchasing power. Anybody who says you can’t have all currencies imploding is wrong. If the US dollar collapses, what do you think is on the balance sheet of all central banks across the globe? Dollars. Balance sheets can get destroyed. That’s what people are not really understanding. Treasury bonds are the foundation to the entire financial system. Treasuries are a defaultable asset. Treasuries and dollars have been over-printed, and there is your inflation.”
So, how do you not let the US dollar and Treasuries default or inflation spiral out of control? That is where Judy Shelton comes in. She has to figure out a way, with Secretary Bessent, to do that by backing the dollar, at least in part, with gold. Total backing of US debt in gold would produce a huge jump in the gold price. Mr. Gold says, “If they wanted to revalue the gold to cover the $40 plus trillion in US debt, assuming the gold that has not been audited since 1956 is all still there, the number would approach $160,000 per ounce. . .. The number is just under $160,000 per ounce in order to cancel the debt out.”

Dirt Rider, after doing a search online, I concluded that no country determines the cost of gold. It is determined by supply and demand. US has the most gold, but the Indians own the most gold individually. If US resets the price of gold, would the price be based upon the current rate? In your opinion, what is the best course of action. I do not trust any of the “spenders” in DC. Linda
Dirt Rider, I conducted another search. This time reports claim that US, Germany and Italy own the most gold. In an article in Revolver News, a Frenchman who moved to Silicon Valley in California warns about being lured to vote for Democrats to get lots of free stuff. He loves America, and warns against voting for Democrats. He claims that the Socialist “free stuff” is what caused France’s problems. (Ref. In a way, US is the only ocuntry that can rest the gold price but it won’t be the way you may imagine it. Gold price will be reset whenever the Deep State decides to stop intervening the price via paper manipulation or war.

“Cancelling” the debt via gold re-valuation ($160,000 as quoted) is fine, but at some point, preferably at $160,000/ troy ounce, the gold would have to be surrendered to actually wipe out the debt; otherwise, it’s just more of the same. There are horrible implications to that move. With what, then, would a Dollar be backed going forward “debtless”? Best always. PM

Greg, that’s a sobering thought. We’ve been spending money we don’t have for a long time, and eventually the bill comes due. Whether gold ends up being part of the solution or not, I think we’d be wise not to put our faith in money or government to save us.
My priorities are pretty simple: faith in Christ first, take care of my family, and do what I can to stay healthy and prepared. And you know we gotta have some Silver Gel on hand! 😉

Trump’s talk about inflating the deficit away spells disaster for anyone holding dollars or dollar based assets such as stocks or bonds. $160,000 per ounce gold would require U.S. to give up the gold stored which seems unlikely. You can’t inflate your way out of this. The deficit is 2T a year this year. It gets bigger each year – because it costs more for the same stuff the government is spending it on. Plus they’re naturally going to “spend” more too in the budget! So debt is 40T today. In 4 to 5 years it will be 50T. In just 9 years it will be 60T. Every time you say the debt is 40T – you have to also say that part too! You can’t devalue the dollar fast enough to even match that! Our future is very very bleak.

Greg, I understand the logic Bill Holter is using when he says the govt. might re-price an ounce of gold to $160,000 to wipe out the debt. I would be grateful at some point if this is discussed again, what this would mean to the resources of the average American. It sounds to me like if this is implemented, it would make most Americans poor in a way that would be exceedingly draconian. I would like to see more discussion of how parents can explain purchasing power to children. Comparing the price of the same small basket of groceries seems a useful start. I work on Dad4Kids, which has math games for children, but those exercises are only a starting point for understanding a family budget.
