Fed Will Be Forced to Raise Rates to Defend the Dollar – Bill Holter

Precious metals expert and financial writer Bill Holter says the market is exuberant with the idea the Federal Reserve is going to be forced to cut interest rates as the economy sinks. Holter has warned about the US dollar turning into confetti because of massive dollar printing and more and more bank bailouts. Holter is taking the other side of the rate cutting bet, and he thinks the Fed will do just the opposite. Holter says, “If you look at the amount of debt service the federal government is paying, it’s over $1 trillion a year. That’s going to go to $1.5 trillion, and then it will go to $2 trillion in interest a year. There is no reflection of deterioration of credit in the rates themselves. I foresee the day, and it may be within the next year, that the Fed is forced to raise interest rates to defend the dollar. That’s the problem. You have bad credit with the country who issues the world’s reserve currency. . . .If all of a sudden the dollar falls apart, how does evil get paid to perform? How do we fight wars?”
Holter goes on to say, “The US Treasury, this year alone, has more than $6 trillion plus the $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion in deficit that they will run. They are going to have to borrow this money this year. Where are they going to borrow that from? Who are they going to borrow it from? Is the Fed just going to conjure the money up and buy the bonds? The Fed lost $114 billion last year, and they are technically insolvent, as is the European Central Bank, as is the Bank of Japan, as is the Bank of England. These central banks are technically insolvent because their assets have dropped in value because interest rates have gone higher. The bond prices have dropped by more than what their equity was worth. . . . The whole system is running on nothing. There is nothing holding it up.”
Several years ago, Bill Holter envisioned a Mad Max type of scenario unfolding because of all the exploding and unpayable debt. Holter heard snickers, but nobody is laughing at his prediction now. Holter says, “Once the credit spigots stop, you are going to see everything stop. You’ll see no goods in stores. You may or may not have water. You may or may not have electricity. Who knows what is not going to work. Everything runs on credit. Without credit I think you could see a 60% to 70% drop in actual GDP, and there is your Mad Max scenario. . . Commerce is not going to happen if there is no credit available.”
On the election coming up in November, Holter sees a 50/50 chance of it not happening. Holter says, “If Trump wins, they will be jailing people left and right.”
On gold, Holter says, “Gold never defaults, and it will act as a risk barometer. Gold will be going much higher in price. . . .We live in the most indebted time in history.”

The future is with East Asia, David. I spent most of my adult life there. I made a big mistake in returning to Australia (though by necessity not choice) just as Covid hit. I’d go back to Asia tomorrow (though I’d avoid Japan and S. Fed monetary policy has become schizophrenic – while the banks are “raising interest rates” on consumers credit cards to 30%, the Fed feels it can soon start “reducing rates” on government borrowed money (the idea likely being that by increasing interest rates on consumers it will cut their spending at Home Depot, etc., etc. and thus reduce inflation enough to lower rates on government bonds which will support the dollar and thus fund more wars with essentially toilet paper)!!!
I’ve been listening to this same story from Bill Holter since 2015. You can’t deny the basis of his warnings – yet nothing ever happens. Gold has significantly under performed stocks and the Ponzi scheme continues. Perhaps some day this will materialize when the US (aka Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots) suffers the judgment described in Revelation.

This is the beginning of hyper-inflation folks and Powell is warning he can’t keep the CPI under control too much longer “by raising interest rates” which is decimating the Bond market and effectively forcing people to put their money into the stock market and precious metals!! Once the Fed “relents in its efforts to contract the economy” (by raising interest rates) to counter all the inflation Yellen and the Demonrats are creating with “back-door QE” (to pay for all their wars and social programs) some really bad “Hyper-Inflation” will begin and that is when prices for everything will skyrocket. Time to buy the tools and other hard products you think you will need in the future is now during this QT that Powell is doing but can’t maintain too much longer without destroying the bond market and the banks that hold such bonds!!!

If you look at the stock price chart for Home Depot for the past year, you will see that on or about October 26, 2023, it has been rising, and this is true with a lot of stocks and indexes. Check this specific time frame out for yourself, and you will notice a significant upswing on this date for many stocks, as they had all been heading downward until that date or time frame.

Thanks Greg, I really wonder about the name Trump- names mean something. God works in mysterious ways and i can’t help thinking that if he gets in it will herald something. I sure hope Mr Holter is wrong, but I’m trying to get ready for what he’s talking about and i would say it comes during a Trump presidency. Those word changes in the Bible have to mean something. Mr Holter contradicted himself in the same sentence saying that they are going to print money and raise interest rates. Inject liquidity and take it out ? If the global economy rejects the US dollar just where exactly is all the commerce going to park ? There is no other currency with depth and liquidity that can accommodate the size of the global economy. If there is a deflationary bust like 1929 then everyone is going to want dollars. Otherwise it’s business as usual.
I think Mr. Holter is wrong regarding interest.
The crash is inevitable, but the most likely scenario is FED *lowering* rates to try to flee deflationary collapse (deflation = shrinking of money supply).
When the Reverse Repo account zeroes out (probably within a few months), it will become much harder for the government to continue borrowing at current rates.
Lowering rates will destroy the dollar. Raising them kicks the can down the road a bit. They need higher rates to sell bonds or no one will buy them.
