State of Denial in Coming War Catastrophe

By Greg Hunter’s USAWatchdog.com

The world economy is in the tank, and the Federal Reserve’s decision to extend its zero interest rate policy to, at least, the end of 2014 proves it.  What will happen if the fragile world economy also has to deal with a war with Iran?  That should have been the big headline coming out of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, but what was reported was concern over slow or no growth in the world.  All the signs are that the West is careening towards war with Iran, and there is not a peep about it from world leaders.  Are they in a state of denial in a coming war catastrophe?  I say yes.

One of the first shots fired by the EU was in the form of increased sanctions to boycott Iranian oil in about five months.  The second shot looks like it will be fired by the Iranians who won’t wait for sanctions to kick in and will move to cut off oil exports of around 600,000 barrels a day to the Eurozone.  (Click here for more on this story.)  The Iranians have not yet cut off the oil.   MSNBC reported yesterday, “The Islamic Republic declared itself optimistic about a visit by U.N. nuclear experts that began on Sunday but also warned the inspectors to be “professional” or see Tehran reducing cooperation with the world body on atomic matters.  The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection delegation will seek to advance efforts to resolve a row about nuclear work which Iran says is for making electricity but the West suspects is aimed at seeking a nuclear weapon.”  (Click here to read the latest CNBC story.)

The immediate cut off of oil to the EU would be a disaster, and the Iranians do not have to close the Strait of Hormuz to do it.  This would cause major pain to a European economy teetering on the brink of collapse.  How well do you think the Eurozone would perform with a spike in energy prices?  Talk about no growth, how about a giant contraction and an implosion of some of the biggest banks on both sides of the Atlantic.  This is not all out war, mind you, just an immediate cut of Iranian oil to Europe.

Some say this is all just a high stakes game of poker with both sides saber rattling and jockeying for position.  Stratfor.com, global intelligence experts, said in a report last week, “It is in this context that the possibility of negotiations has arisen. The Iranians have claimed that the letter the U.S. administration sent to Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei that defined Iran’s threats to Strait of Hormuz as a red line contained a second paragraph offering direct talks with Iran. After hesitation, the United States denied the offer of talks, but it did not deny it had sent a message to the Iranian leadership.”  (Click here to read the complete report.)

I think this view is extremely optimistic and on the edge of wishful thinking in light of the comments made by the Israeli Defense Minister a few days ago.  The UK Telegraph reported, “Reviving Western concerns that his government is still contemplating unilateral military action against Iran, Ehud Barak gave one of the clearest signs yet that Israel’s support for new US and EU sanctions remains strictly limited.  “We are determined to prevent Iran from turning nuclear,” he told the World Economic Forum in Davos. “And even the American president and opinion leaders have said that no option should be removed from the table.  It seems to us to be urgent, because the Iranians are deliberately drifting into what we call an immunity zone where practically no surgical operation could block them.”  (Click here to read the complete UK Telegraph story.)  This doesn’t sound like a peace plan to me.

Debka.com, a leading intelligence website, reported the possible time table for war in a post yesterday.  The Debka.com analysis says actions by the U.S. Navy on deploying a special commando ship in the Persian Gulf point to a conflict that is just a few months away.  The report said, “The target date for deploying the commando platform in the Persian Gulf in four or five months indicates Washington is preparing for military clashes to blow up with Iran in the late spring or early summer.” (Click here for the complete Debka.com report.)  Then again, what if the Iranians feel war is going to happen no matter what and don’t wait for the U.S. to be fully set.  What if the Israelis take charge and strike first?  If the U.S. lost an aircraft carrier or two, would the conflict turn nuclear?  These are all real world questions with catastrophic implications for the fragile Western economy that is cocked full of insolvent banks that use phony accounting to stay afloat.  If real war breaks out, the charade will be over—pronto.

I am not advocating war–just pointing out that war is coming unless something is done to avert it.  If war does come, it will be bloody on both sides.  The Iranians surely possess sophisticated supersonic Chinese and Russian missiles that are capable of sinking an aircraft carrier.  The Iranians, also, probably have Russian torpedoes that travel at speeds of at least 200 miles per hour—underwater!   Check out this example of a Russian torpedo that can sink vessels above and below the water.

Does the U.S. have countermeasures to Chinese and Russian missiles and torpedoes?   Yes, but no countermeasure is 100% effective.  It would be naïve to think the U.S. could come out of this conflict without a loss of vessels and lives.  The U.S would win the war, but the world economy would collapse in a matter of days if the saber rattling turned into full metal-to-metal contact.  An imploding global economy would happen in Internet time and would make the Great Depression look like a party.

I wouldn’t be to optimistic about the U.S. winning the war if the Chinese and Russians get involved. As far as going nuclear, one Carrier loss may go nuclear, two Carrier losses and it will go nuclear. And you and I have not been invited to the .gov’s underground bunkers… but some of us might get on our knee’s and beg the government to save us. And of course, the gov will only be to happy too.

    • Skeptic

I seriously doubt that China and Russia will get involved, but yes, it will bring catastrophe and a dark age will descend on us. As for fanaticism, the only fanatics are Israel and the Neo-cons who have promoted first strike wars against “Israel’s enemies” bankrolled by American taxpayers who are zoned out in front of their TV while their government went into debt. Iran has not waged wars of aggression against anyone, and since when has it been proven that Iran has a nuclear weapons program? Even if Iran has developed a nuke, so what? What makes it imperative to wipe them out? Last I check, bluster is NOT a war crime. The Neo-Cons have captured America and indirectly controlled the largest and most lethal army and weapons in the world. They will go about their madness unimpeded. It is “Good Night” for most of us sane ones.

  2. Jerry Frey

Until the Iranian government actually tests a nuclear device, it would be folly to attack the mullahs. These fanatics can not be permitted, however, to possess a weapon that can threaten Europe and Sunni Arab nations such as their arch-enemy, Saudia Arabia. No argument can be advanced that justifies a weapon in the hands of these fundamentalists because Russia, China, India, and Pakistan are not potential adversaries.

Obviously, a WMD is primarily directed at Israel, therefore the Jewish state and the Iranian theocracy are existential adversaries. Israel should be held to the same standard as other counties and be compelled to disclose its number of nukes. Perhaps such a dose of reality will jolt the Iranian people into the realization that regime change would be in their self-interest.

    Decide for yourself.

    • Frank Brady

With all due respect, it is a war crime for one nation to attack another in times of peace. Mere possession of a nuclear weapon (or attempting to develop the capability) does not justify an attack. Bush’s pre-emptive war doctrine is and was criminally insane.

Neither the United States, nor Israel, nor the so-called “community of nations” (which is, in reality, a motley clot of failed European Welfare States in the U.S. orbit) is in any position to “permit” or “forbid” Iran or any other sovereign nation from developing such weapons. The U.S. and the Soviet Union stared each other down for nearly half a century and the world has quite a few announced (and probably as many unannounced” members of the nuclear club.

Neither the United States, nor Israel, nor the so-called “community of nations” have and legal or moral basis for instructing the people of Iran on the nature of its government. So long as they do not bother us, we should not bother them.

  3. anthony

send 15 ruskys toward the aircraft carriers even if 13 are taken out she will still sink.dark days are coming.

  4. jay

    Greg.
What scares me is no one in our government is considering what will happen if we drop 1 bomb on Iran. It should be looked at as a strike on the largest city in china, and russia. = W.W.W. 3
This would ensure nuclear bombs will surely drop in the U.S.A.

  5. Mike

Is it not interesting that all this hot air blowing around at the moment is doing so right at the start of the so-called “Awards Season”? The timing could not have been better for the powers that be as so many people are more concerned about which actor or actress won the academy award than anything else. I am frustrated when I talk to other people about the events that are covered by this magnificent website and all they do is stare at me as if I’ve lost my mind. No sooner do I complete my “argument” and the conversation turns to film and televsion. It saddens me to think that when the s**t hits the fan, these are the people who are going to be asking everyone else how it happened, how could it have gone so wrong. In other circumstances it would be a pleasure to say “told you so” but in this case there will be no pleasure at all because the catastrophe is going to be enormous. The “war” with Iran is surely coming as it pushes the plans of the powers that be to the next level, maybe even skipping a level or three. It is sad to watch events unfold as if it were a script for a movie. A script it is indeed, but not for a movie.

Thanks, Greg, for your work and effort. It is wonderful to read these pages and see sense in a world where sense has been mislaid.

greg, i realize things are very tense (to say the least in the middle east), but its interesting how these calamatous events are always 4-6 months away. heck, literally every day we the people are bombarded with threats of this crisis or that one, be it economic or otherwise. its mind numbing. a continuous state of fear. again, nothing against your professional reporting- i hope you understand what i am saying

    • Greg

      Justin,
I understand what you are saying man. Thank you for the comment.

Fear is a misuse of the imagination. Be prepared.

  7. Kevin

Why will war with Iran, and by implication China, Russia, and Brazil, cause a global economic collapse? I think the Fed looks at war as the cover it needs to continue its liquidity injections (QEx) in to the markets.

    • Greg

      Kevin,
In the simplest terms Debt payments on hundreds of trillions of derivatives will cease and the entire system will go under.
      Greg

  8. Alan

I remember seeing this on press tv now taken off the Sky satellite off air here in the UK.
My personal view is if the Iranians do use these and lets say they launch 50 or 100 at one time some will hit the mark.
Then what the nukes come into play we all need to remember Israel has more nukes per head of population than any other country in the world.
Millions of innocent people will be killed for what. I will pass on that remark. Not only that all these illegal wars have been ether Ground force/Air they have not tested out the Navy Hardware to the Full Monty yet.

As for interests rates being kept at almost 0%. I remember back in the 80’s when the Bank of England interest rates hit 15% my personal view and I am no “”rocket”” when it comes to Interest rates they are keeping these low if not millions of people will not be able to pay their mortgages would be hitting the cities and towns here in the UK and around the world.

    Very good article Greg

    • Greg

      Thank you Alan.
      Greg

  9. Art Barnes

Greg, first, The Fed cannot ever again raise interest rates and they know it, in light of U.S. 3.5 billion added debt per day any raise ever will tank the economy into dooms day and they know it. The Fed is out of game plans except for printing which it will do.

Secondly, Iran has outsmarted the west once again by the threat of cutting off the oil first and without blocking sea lanes. The little guy in the well plays great poker. Now watch the Europeans back off the proposed sanctions. I believe this is just posturing on all fronts, that is unless the polls indicate a large swing shift against the democrats in November and wag the dog might come into play. But Iran will not be fooled by a presidential election year and is playing the recent UN inspectors to buy time to get past November, which will probably work. At the same time oil prices continue to maintain $100 and if they go somewhat higher Iran benefits. This is a win-win situation for this enemy. With another Obama win Iran has 4 more years to go nuclear. What Israel will do is the wild card but probably will have to live with a nuclear Iran because the West will not fire a overt shot and, therefore, Iran will continue to fight Israel by a non-nuclear local proxy for years to come.

Last month Japan showed a trade deficit for the first time since the last world war. Simply amazing! That leads to my third point, you can’t fight and win wars without money, it will destroy you as history has shown. So Greg, if that is what were actually up to as your article suggest there is really no hope until a new system arises out of the ashes.

    • Greg

Thank you Art for adding your comments and analysis.

      Art,

Pertinent point…..”cannot fight wars without money”.
Empires in history show this very clearly.
Greek & Roman empires failed because of a lack of money. With their respective growing empires stretching the budgets…money just simply ran out. Deficits were not invented then….but debts were. Sounds familiar, although the FED has unlimited power to print as much $$$$ as they see fit. One of the reasons the US went off the gold redemption was to allow expansion of money supply …as required. Untold exponential leverage and the forced use of USD in settlement of international trade = power + control.

Let me tell you a story about the Spanish Armada and these little English “speed boats”.

    • Greg

      Herman,
Please tell us. I’d love to read it.
      Greg

      • Herman Gerbils

Basically Greg it’s the cautionary tale of what happens to the mightiest naval force of it’s time from the preeminent empire of it’s day, Spain. In 1588, a force of approximately 130 ships (23 Spanish Galleons and their supply ships)set sail against England (same Protestant/Catholic B.S. going on to this day) and through a combination of being out manoeuvered and facing unconventional tactics (smaller, faster British boats and “fire ships”),bad weather, bad luck, not having the supplies for the escape route they were forced to take, the Armada lost 4 Galleons,20,000 men and about half the ships they set sail with. It was the beginning of the end for the Spanish Empire and the start of England’s rise. In the same way Rome and Americas decline mirror each other somewhat, we run the risk of repeating Spain’s mistakes in the Gulf today. But I turn a wrench for a living, you may want to get an actual historian to weigh in 🙂

        • Greg

          Sounds good to me Herman.

Something to think about. Unemployment is at or around 50% for 18 to 25 year olds world wide. What better way to handle such unemployment then by drafting them into the military. We will see how many don’t ask don’t tell and O.W.S. types show up to the draft offices. Food for thought.

    • Greg

      Joe,
I have an idea, lets get all the old people go to war. Don’t send kids with their whole lives ahead of then.

And it’s one, two, three, what are we fighting for.
        Don’t ask me, I don’t give a damn.

And it’s five, six, seven, open up the pearly gates.

        Woopie, we’re all gonna die.

Politicians, Banker CEO’s take the point.

Point. First man out in front of patrol.

    • g.johnson

well greg, as one of “the old people” all i can say to that is…..hell no, i won’t go. 🙂

iran is a nation of wonderful people who were on the verge of overthrowing their mullah governance and becoming an increasingly westernized culture until dubya began his vitriolic blithering about what a threat they were to our wonderful way of life. these people of course, began to feel betrayed by the very culture that they had worked so hard to emulate. now they are in a very untenable position (rock and a hard place) of having to divide their energies between dealing with their oppressive mullah government and dealing with the threat of the western war powers. i do feel for these people. not so much for their leaders, just the people.

i do not believe that a war with iran is about nukes, or even oil. i believe the main factor is strategic location. so, gotta ask myself…what the hell is the united states of america doing looking for real estate on the other side of the globe?

war is never about preserving peace, or a way of life (save the way of life of the very elite) or about liberty. there is no glory in the mass murder and destruction known as war. those who put on a uniform and give up their right to think for themselves in order to fight “for our freedom” are delusional. they are fighting to pave the way for cash and control for an elite few and nothing more. and those of us who lavish praise upon our soldiers for their service to our country are delusional as well, for the service they provide is not for the benefit of we the people but for the benefit of they the cash and control elite.

don’t get me totally wrong. i do appreciate that they think they are doing us a good turn and that they are willing to go into harms way. but if they truly understood what they are fighting for, would they? and if we truly understood what they are fighting for, would we let them?

as long as we continue to allow the insane to rule the world, it will continue to be an insane world.

      • Greg

        g johnson,
Sad thing here is the Iranian people are more like western people than any other country in the ME. It is looking more and more like war and I hope I am totally wrong.

    Gold=Dollar=Oil=War

No matter what the politics, the above equation explains it all.

Gold has been the time tested store of wealth. Gold has survived
stones, talley sticks, cattle, and on numerous occasions paper currency.
The Keynesian way is burning and the return to gold draws near. Central banks are net buyers and not sellers. How much gold in Fort Knox? No audit by an independent firm.If the gold has been moved to the New York City financial center. How much and who’s gold is it? Notice a few countries are requesting the return of their gold. Gold for oil?
Poor old Dollar taking a beating. Gold for oil instead of the Dollar? Makes you wonder as the exchange is now pay in local currencies or gold. Uncle Sam very mad. Not as much as a safe haven as it used to be. World reserve currency not so world reserve anymore.
Remember oil was to be payed for in dollars.
Oil, according to the expects has peaked in production and new found fields would take seven years to bring on line. What about that pipeline they were going to build from Canada to the USA? Putting the hurt on your pocketbook in the spring as gas prices will rise. Iranian oil pipe lines to Russia and oil tankers under other nations flags.
War is the Wild Card. This what we have to contend with from the stupity of the greedy and power hungry who don’t give a damn for nothing. A result of years of so called nation building? An experiment gone wrong with the Frankenstein monster running amuck.
Our nation with the highest welfare in years. Unemployment and poverty. Our money in the toilet. Europe looking at financial disaster. Coming our way. Now they are talking WAR! One thing to remember is the Iranians are not your typical Arab. They consider themselves Persians. Israel with Iran’s nuclear reactor problem and the USA keeping the Straits of Hormuz open are deadly cat and mouse games.

Here we are and can not do thing about it.

Do they go to war first or collaspe the financial markets?
Kind of like which came first, the chicken or the egg.

  13. AndyB

Greg: One of the reasons that your site is especially good is that you make an attempt to connect the dots, even as there are far too many disinformation pundits or outright propagandists who refuse to do so by design (willful ignorance).

In the face of world economic calamity, it appears that the end game is being moved up. No longer can the ruling psychopaths count on the insidious incremental approach. Instead we get a war on numerous fronts to further erode individual choice and freedom. Witness SOPA and ACTA, the Patriot Act in all of its permutations, and the most recent NDAA which should be called “the Act for the Final Destruction of the Bill of Rights”.

Wars have always been used as a distraction and as a means to subjugate populations on either side, throuh conquest or fear. Why should this time be any different, if not considerably worse?

    • Greg

      Thank you AndyB.

When the Gulf of Tonkin incident was completed, we GI’s knew where we would be sent next. No, we did not believe that North Viet-Nam was the initiator. Who knew what the unforeseen human, civil & financial cost would result.

Upon returning from Bien Hoa & landing at then Washington National Airport in late 69, there were more smoke plumes rising from downtown DC, than at the Viet-Nam base I left many, many hours ago. So what was resolved?

In the Middle East, more hardware, fast & sophisticated weaponry, numerous nation’s forces are in dangerous proximity. Throw religion into the mix, not a factor in Viet-Nam, and we have one explosive alphabet soup of factions.

ONE mistake, or false flag, much destruction & death will occur in minutes. The unforeseen human cost, ripple effect, and blowback will will be horrific.

Anyone that thinks we here in the USA will not feel a HUGE ripple effect has the awareness IQ of a mold spore.

Shape up, get your s**t together, and prep. No rotation date for us citizens. We are here for the duration.

  15. David Conrad

Yes, again you are (unfortunately) probably right. The Iranians will only stop plodding towards their goal of having their own nukes, if somebody stops them. And yes, either the U.S. or Israel will do just that.

And the aftermath will not be pretty.

    Keep up the great work!

    • Greg

      David,
      Thank you for weighing in.

    Hi Greg!

These things must take place. Mystery Babylon(the NWO headed by the USA) will occupy and control most of the middle east which in ancient times was Persia(Iran). The start of this war along with the collapsing economy are necessary to bring the covenant with many this fall talked about in Daniel 9:27. That of course will begin the 7 years of Jacob’s trouble called the tribulation. Yes by the end of this 7 years a 1/4 of the worlds population will cease to exist but that is nothing compared to the destruction that the final year of wrath brings after those 7 years. This 8th year will see the Armageddon and nuclear holocaust the world has talked about for the last 50 years. For more understanding of these things please read this ebook link: http://www.ubm1.org/?page=e-book2

== The Ultimate Unintended Consequence ==

Ever wondered what would result from Iran’s sinking of one or more U. S. NUCLEAR-powered aircraft carriers? Even more pertinent: has any federal strategist applied thought to that prospect — as regards the residual force of damaged, leaky reactors upon the watery environment on which those megavessels depend for flotation?

I wonder how much irradiated fish and other resources in and near the strait would be produced as if a mini-Fukishima were igniting from such an attack. Just saying . . . . — Larry W. Bryant (30 Jan 12)

I see the USA and Iran both blundering toward war. There is a faction in the US that wants a war and I expect they’ll get it. Right wing Jewish talk show hosts and bloggers want a war with Iran by us. They want the US to stay engaged in the Middle East and fight muslims so they don’t have to. We been used and had. Just look at the hysterical venom they have poured onto Ron Paul. Sanctions never work. Trade embargoes work well to start wars. I recall an embargo on oil back in the summer of 1941. It achieved the opposite of its intended goal. Japan did not get out of China and went and seized its own oil supply. Those who don’t give a S–T about history get to take the lesson again. This war will involve China and Russia, too, and I imagine you’ll get to watch some of it-not on TV or computer, but there your front windows. Glad I own a gold mine in a remote area.

  19. Bob

    Greg,

I read your messages frequently, while thinking what can I do that will make a difference? I can only think of living my life, in such a way to be ready to meet my maker. Of course I can vote, for Ron Paul who I truly believe would make a difference. At the same time, it would appear he will not be seriously considered by the masses. So, what is wrong with living each day with love for my enemies as well as those close to me. It gives me a sense of peace in this world, that is spinning out of control.

    • Greg

      Bob,
I would not count Dr. Paul out just yet. It will be a long contest until the GOP convention or at least through June. He may also not win the nomination but have enough delegates to broker a deal and get some of his views into play. There is nothing wrong with your plan but don’t give up hope my friend. We all feel a little weired right now.

    Greg,
I viewed a Rick Steves trip to Iran (a two part episode) and was stunned to listen to the mostly young population speak about Americans. Almost universally they hold a very positive view of us. They seem highly educated and many spoke flawless English,in fact , embarrassingly better than most youngsters that I have seen interviewed in the States. Obama missed a huge opportunity to lend support to the protesters that were eventually crushed in Iran and instead jumped into the soon to be mess in Egypt with both feet. A severe intel flop yet again–again– and again etc..
Embargoes only further strengthen tyrannical regimes who control the press by fostering hate of a common enemy.
The false flag warmongering about oil is almost comical as if drilling were allowed and the Keystone pipeline built we would be self sufficient in oil and would be a major exporter of LNG. The manipulation of treasure and our precious children into “patriotic” duty by these chickenhawk criminals in DC is scandalous.
    Thank you

    • Greg

      Martin,
The Iranians are more like us than we have been told. There are more women doctors there than any other ME country–hands down. I hope there is not war but all the signs look ominous right now.
      Greg

I don’t believe it’s a state of denial. These people who are creating and implementing policy on Iran are not idiots and morons. These are detailed planners, analysts, and strategists who come from top colleges and cut their teeth in leading firms and organizations as they worked their way into current roles. This is part of a plan – including the risks and likelihoods of nuclear confrontation and major warfare between major powers outside of the Central Commmand theater of operations. Stop thinking of your elected officials and their appointees as people who are working for the benefit and safety of Americans. These notions of “In Denial” start to become very silly when you consider the background and tenure of those who are forming policy. It’s not denial. It’s the plan. Those who think the leaders are in denial are the ones who are in denial.

    • Skeptic

Unfortunately, you are right. The plan is methodical, and is meticulously carried out unimpeded so far, from Iraq, Libya, now Syria and Iran.

  22. chowthen

It’s amazing how you bunch of armchair admirals could imagine sinking an aircraft carrier with your submarine and rockets and such. When I served aboard a carrier in Tonkin Gulf we already have anti submarine rocket system all this Russian or Chinese technology seems to me is 40 years behind. Anyway before you can get close to a carrier you have to deal with the escorts which are 50 miles away from the carrier and don’t even think they don’t have anti submarine aircraft to hunt down subs. Sinking of a carrier happened in WWII in the battle of Midway and by the way that was a carrier battle not against land base aircraft, small surface ships or submarine. IT TAKES A LOT TO SINK A CARRIER YOU CAN’T DO IT WITH ONE TORPEDO.

    • Greg

      Chowthen,
You need to read up on some of the latest missiles and torpedoes. Our own navy and Pentagon people say what’s out there now is very dangerous. How about a rocket propelled torpedo with a nuclear head traveling at more than 2 hundred miles underwater? How about they shoot 10 and 3 get through? I did not include all my research in the post because I didn’t want to go all “Jane’s Defense Weekly” on our readers. The weapons that have been developed by the Russians and Chinese can sink an aircraft carrier, that is what they were invented for. Russian and Chinese torpedoes and missiles are very high tech and I assure you they are not comprised of 40 year old technology. Thank you for weighing in.
      Greg

      • DavidNYC

Last year a Chinese sub surfaced right in the middle of an American carrier group and fired a missile out into the Pacific. It dived and evaded the flotila. That event scared the crap out of the Navy boys… We are not immune to weapons developed by our enemies. Look at our “best-equipped” military force in Afghanistan, held at by by a bunch of rag-tag fighters using 30-year-old Russian weapons, and blowing us up with a few sticks of dynamite with an old cell phone for a detonator.

        • chowthen

DavidNYC, our forces are not held up in Afghanistan by the rag tag Talibans. We’re held up by our own government by the insistence of fighting a politically correct war to win the heart and mind of the people. This is what happened in Vietnam and happening again. Our forces were held up until Nixon authorized the bombing of North Vietnam thereby bringing North Vietnam to the Paris peace accord in January 1973 ending US participation and withdrawal of US forces from Vietnam. North Vietnam violated the accord in 1975 but by then the US had no heart to interfere because of lack of funds and the Democrat congress. I know all this because I was present with a matured and thinking mind at that time.

      • chowthen

Greg, I’m also an aerospace engineer by profession and have worked in weapons program I know our capability. You yourself have said we are spending way too much in military industrial complex more than 10 times what the Chinese or the Russians and now your saying they have more advance weaponry that can destroy our state of the art carriers. Perhaps our scientist and engineers are not as good anymore since most has been replaced by Indians and Chinese. I will admit nothing is invincible but you have to get around the security and safeguards before you can destroy it. As for using nuclear tip weapon to destroy one of ours that in itself means nuclear war what would Russia or China benefit in going nuclear just for the sake of Iran?

It’s been a good discussion Greg, but perhaps what’s happening to the Middle East and North Africa after the Arab spring is more interesting…especially now with Hilary wanting to attack Syria.

        • Greg

          chowthen,
The dire possibilities are breathtaking. Thank you for weighing in. Please do anytime.

    Greg,
    State of denial indeed.
But your analysis does not go to the real case.

Iran is the current leader in terms of avoiding USD settlement for Oil.
It has agreements with India and China to trade Oil for Gold.
This has the potential to undermine the USD as the worlds reserve.
More importantly it has the potential to start an avalanche away from the USD. Ultimately this can lead to widespread trashing of the USD. If that eventuates, then the USD is worthless. Thats a real concern for the US …and for the world !!!!

The last country to move towards this financial arrangement (GOLD vs USD) ….Libya….before them it was Iraq. The former IMF Chief Strauss-Kahn made a suggestion before his undoing, for a new monetary system backed by GOLD. They were all succinctly dispatched.

As far as those who understand the effects / potential of a conflict with IRAN (readers of this article & others), I ask, what difference does it all make at the end of the day…someone who is wiser is not necessarily protected (esp. in a doomsday scenario). To me it would seem more appropriate to enjoy every day that we live in peace…. albeit in a centrally planned, socialist economy where democracy is not determined by our freedoms but moreover by the choices that are provided.

    • Greg

      Liquid Motion,
I have no argument for all the points you make. You are on target.
      Greg

While the impotent idiots at the apex of the classical power structure tinker with impotent, if not insane, ideas, people in the grass roots of society are monetizing personal gold and adding it to increase liquidity …. all debt free. Let’s see the ole boys swat flies with a sledge hammer….. should be a laugh !

  25. Mihail

The US will win this war..let me tell you something body,,the US is going to burn, burn baby burn. You have no idea what is coming to Amerikka, destruction, hunger, this country is going to be burn to the ground, and for this, you have to thank those Ashkenazi devils from synagogue of satan(Rev 2:9,,3:9),those impostors are in control, the stupid amerikan goy die for Israheelll.
If they are stupid enough to attack Iran,Amerika deserve to be destroy,,it’s pay back time,,what you have done to so many country around the world it will be done to you.Pray for peace, pray that you will escape the destruction that will come.Russia with the northern army and the chinese will not stand by,Iran is not Iraq.Wake up if you want to live,America never won a single war, beside Grenada, you’r not going to win this one either.

    • Greg

      Mihail,
No country on earth will be spared pain in this war. We all lose in this one “body.”
      Greg

  26. PatriotDave

One can’t help but wonder why a 50 year old Nuclear aircraft carrier has to be sent to the Gulf on its last mission. Could it be that the sinking of a nuclear powered ship would create more panic and justification for an aggressive response? This isn’t about nukes…it’s about preserving the almighty dollar as the world’s reserve currency. Iran put a target on their back when they started trading oil with foreign currency…see Libya.

  27. TJ Jackson

    Greg,
Considering that we invaded Iraq and killed Saddam Hussein primarily because he was trying to undermine the dollar by agreeing to sell oil for gold and currencies other than the US dollar, it is no surprise that we are trying to neutralize Iran for doing the same thing. But now the stakes are much higher. The (dot)Indians, the Russians and the Chinese are all involved with the mullahs to bring down the almighty dollar. They eliminate the dollar as the reserve currency and we will plunge into economic chaos, the game will be over. I believe that the Israeli’s are hesitant to do our dirty work for us. They know that the Russians and Chinese will not sit idly by and let the Israeli’s strike Iran. So it will be up to the USA to lead the charge. I do not think that Obama will hesitate to make this move because the “change” he envisions for America will not take place unless there is a tremendous crisis for he and his demo-commies to exploit. What happens after the first strike is anyone’s guess but I guess it will not be good. Remember, the future belongs to the prepared.

  28. Bruce

Hi Greg and thanks for the great article as always but what I think you are missing in your argument is the Petrodollar recycling.
Iran no longer accepts US Dollar for their OIL also they just signed trade agreements with Russia and China to accept Ruble, Yuan and Gold as the form of payment for their oil.
If I recall correctly Sadam of Iraq also stopped accepting US dollar as the form of payment for the Iraqi oil and instead he only accepted Euro and we all know the outcome, the big invasion.
So it is all about the Petrodollar recycling and NOTHING MORE!

Here is the link to Wikipedia’s Petrodollar recycling.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petrodollar_recycling
    cheers

    • Greg

      Bruce,
Yes, I cannot disagree. I wanted to keep my post simple so I didn’t cover the gold-dollar-oil link but your point is well made and well taken. Thank you for weighing in.
      Greg

  29. Publius

My thinking is that this is high theater for public consumption and although I will not disagree that accidents can happen and the unexpected occur, it is not to be expected that nuclear war occur. I suspect the strategy of maximum tension will not go to all out war due to Russia and China not aligning with the USA. Furthermore, the USA prefers to fight wars with overwhelming shock and awe and Iran is simply too well armed and too dug in to be knocked out. Then there is the question of internal politcs in Iran. If Iran can be destabilized while military force is in the region then it might be feasible for a limited strike to protect the Iranian rebels because Iranian military is tied up with internal issues. Lastly, Iran may take a first strike and do nothing. That would truly induce horror in the West.

    • Greg

Thank you Publius for your analysis.
      Greg

  30. M SMITH

Greg, look up ISDA.org, Jim Sinclair has released a bombshell!

  31. Marcel

    Greg,
You forgot to mention that Russia stated in clear and unambiguous terms that an attack on Tehran would be considered as an attack on Moscow.

I understand your not wanting to overwhelm your readers but this war will be unprecedented in human history and be blamed on Israel, all fitting into biblical end time eschatology.

    America is the main target
Iran will strike US forces,Bases,Naval Carriers and ships in a lightning surprise attack that will make Pearl Harbor look like a Sunday picnic

    From Jeremiah 51
    1THUS SAYS the Lord: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon(America) and against those who dwell among those rebelling against Me a destroying wind and spirit;

    11The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes [who with the Persians will destroy the Babylonian(American) Empire], for His purpose concerning (America) Babylon is to destroy it;

12Set up a standard or signal [to spread the news] upon the walls of Babylon! Make the watch and blockade strong, set the guards, prepare the ambushes! For the Lord has both purposed and done that which He spoke against the inhabitants of Babylon.

13O [Babylon](America) you who dwell by many waters, rich in treasures, your end has come, and the line measuring your life is cut.
    Jeremiah 51

The overriding agenda which stumbling, bumbling, blind humanity ignores is what God is doing now.
He is setting up the trap for the nations to come up against Israel after this devastating nuclear war.

    Joel 3:2
I will gather all nations and will bring them down into the Valley of Jehoshaphat, and there will I deal with and execute judgment upon them for [their treatment of] My people and of My heritage Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations and [because] they have divided My land.

WAR IS NEVER THE ANSWER! We are past due to get our ass kicked!

    • hbeachrealist

Yup. You only go to war unless attacked. What comes around, goes around. Evil politicians and the military-industrial-complex are getting us in deep, deep trouble. Unfortunately, the sheeple do not even know what current wars we are in.

  33. JayWJr

To say that war is the cause of the worldwide economic failure is like saying that marriage is the result of pregnancy.

War is in fact the distraction that the U.S. government and media uses to cover for its financial misdoings.

  34. Reader

If the jews want to start a war with Iran, they better be 100% sure of success. Or else…

  35. Chris

Sadly, I think WWIII is on its way. Food for thought, when the U.S. was duped by FDR into WWII, the U.S. was not a debtor nation and the credit rating of the country was spotless. Now its the opposite. Also, if Russia and China (and India) get involved, they might engage in financial warfare to shut down the American war machine (e.g. China dumping treasuries, Dollar dumping).

Even if they was a false flag event, the American public has become very war weary.

  36. mark

Thanks again Greg. I also suspect that this is about supporting the petro dollar and the inability of the central bankers to control Iran. It’s also interesting to note that Iran recently upgraded their intermediate range missiles with GPS so they can hit Israel’s reactors and biological weapons storage sites with pin point accuracy.
In any case it would be suicide for Iran.

  37. B Danielsson

I’m afraid the opening shots will be fired shortly between the Russians who are sending in their special forces, and western infiltrators assisting the Syrian rebels – ala Libya. Praying for peace but genuinely spooked.

    • Greg

      B Danielsson,
You are not alone. I was on an airplane and sat next to a special forces sniper a few years ago, and he told me while he was in Iraq he ran into Iranian special forces. He actually traded shots with them. Of course, this was unofficial but he said the Iranians were “very good” and he ruled out that he was trading shots with the Taliban or anyone else. When this hits it will be ugly for the entire world China and Russia will be involved this time around. Thank you for the links too!
      Greg

  38. B Danielsson

Thank you Greg for the thought-provoking pieces that you write. I guess this behind-the-scenes cat and mouse happens more often than we realize. But sadly this time it looks like it will be on a grander scale – well beyond taking pot shots at each other; let’s hope it doesn’t spiral out of control.

Another false flag operations and you folks still cannot see it??? Golf of Tonkin, WMD in Iraq, Iran has no nuke weapons grade material, It takes years to produce and test. BUT they are not playing nice with the globalist elite and their global governance plan so all the Arab Springs and Libya have to be taught a lesson. Read Quigley’s book Tragedy and Hope and learn of the Banker’s plan for global ‘peace’ (sic) yep…Bin Laden died of kidney failure years ago and America drinks the kool aid because they had to be pumped up again to continue this phoney war on terror like the ones on drugs education and all other government form of war that justify losing our liberties. We create a boogie man and coincidentally have a solution via the Hegelian dialect methodology. Why change when this has been a resounding success?
Yes, we’ll go to war and our nation will meet its downfall and in the name of peace the sheep will willingly give up more liberties in the name of terror. Forget the track record of DHS never catching nor stopping a terrorists! don’t bother with fact nor the track record of encroachment. Not one GOP candidate speaks out against the NDAA yet Congress is screaming to pass a bill to use MORE unmanned remote vehicles in the USA against terrorist? Oh that’s right DHS has not classified (love that double speak) anyone that speak out against the government as a terrorist. Forget Iran we should be focusing on our own leadership, look at the other hand folks!!! wake up for the love of freedom oh wait too late you still think you are free!

  40. mark

by the way Greg…another excellent article from one of the best critical thinkers I know.
    thanks

  41. David

    Greg. Once again, well done!

Let me expand. I agree that war is around the corner. As you know, I personally do not believe a war with China or Russia would stop there. Unfortunately, while we would have to fight both houses, I think each of their proxies would come first… or at the very least, at the same time. It’s chess. So while we look to the proverbial King and Queen… we must also be weary of the pawns that they direct. This is often ignored by most, especially those with other motives.

For instance, while we somehow (and for whatever reason)worry about the nuclear threat of Iran, we forget to look at the Russians who are building it or to the Venezuelans that provides the fuel for it. Leaving both somewhat immune to the initial wrath of the global elite who have allowed it all to occur in the first place.

Sure we could get into how we have allowed ourselves the “invite” into another nations business while neglecting our own, but that would create an unnecessary debate of foundation without regard to Article 4 Section 4. I’m done murdering the corpse honestly.

Most Americans have allowed themselves and their families to become simple minded, neglecting strategic concepts and complex ideas. This will be their and our collective downfall… a basic lack of imagination, or the lack of enthusiasm to “Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear.” – Thomas Jefferson. IE: questioning what you’ve been sold.

Greg, I love how you help define the catalysts that are ultimately leading to the inevitable. History has shown repeatedly that it’s not a matter of “if”… it’s a matter of “when”. The Cycles of Society are providing the timeline and you do a phenomenal job of expressing the path.

Thank you for trying to pull at least some of the petroleum packed wool from the eyes of those who are stuck in a world of Bernays. Let us hope that at least a few may rouse and find their way home in time.

    In Liberty…

  42. Skeptic

Greg, Thank you for keeping this site updated for those of us who are awake. Can you weigh in on the scenario for the coming war with Iran and what will likely happen to the global system in the event of an oil shock? I hate to sound cavalier, but while it is a war crime to wage another war of aggression, the victims will primarily be the current and future generations of Iranians, who will be wiped out like the Iraqis. However, the Straits of Hormuz will likely be struck, and there will be an oil shock for the world economy. Not that it bothers the Neo-cons and the genuine “mad mullahs” in Jerusalem. What will likely happen to the world undergoing this crisis?

    • Greg

      Skeptic,
“mad mullahs” abound and they are of all countries and all religions. The bad combinations range from global depression to Mad Max to a return to the stone age. All I know things will be very bad even for the prepared.
      Greg

  43. Skeptic

If Romney wins, it will be worst than Dubya as he is in deep with the Neo-Cons, Eliot Cohen and his ilk. Outlined here:

    http://www.counterpunch.org/2012/02/07/romneys-man-on-iran/

I am not convinced that the Russians and Chinese will back Iran, the stakes are too high. This the Neo-cons and Israel have it right. However, the shock to the global economy will be another matter, as oil supplies will be severely disrupted. This is of course of no concern to the aggressors, ideologues as blind, as psychopathic and dangerous as the Fascists in their day. It would be interesting to consider an unfolding scenario of such a catastrophe, as it will arrive as inevitably as the wars on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and now Syria and Iran.

  44. jim t

things are subject to change. all iran has to do is comply with nuclear regs, allow inspections, and prove they are not makeing weapons grade materials.
the u.s. will never allow iran go knowingly get nukes. the question is where will it go? will iran syria and pakistan aly? will china and russia allow us to attack iran, syria, and pakistan without getting involved? and if they defend them how long will it be until the nato charter is enacted and europe if fully involved?
